Ringing in the New Year with a win!

A couple of months ago we decided to ring in the New Year in Durant at the Choctaw Casino. There were a couple of bands performing that we wanted to see and gambling is always entertaining whether you win or not. Of course, winning is always more fun! But, whatever....

On Sunday morning we got in the RV and headed up 75 to Durant. We got there around noon, checked in and set up camp. We got a great spot at the RV park. No RVs in front of us...just a view of an open, grassy area and the light show at the casino at night.

Around 1:30 we grabbed a shuttle over to the casino and within minutes had split up to find our own game to play. Ronnie likes video poker...I do not. I like the penny slots. I played a couple of games and was up around $20 when I stumbled on "Lobstermania." I  have seen this machine at every casino but have never played it. This time I did and immediately began winning a few cents on each spin. Then I hit a bonus. One spin netted me $145.65. My original investment was $20 so I was quite happy when I cashed out at $170.08. I put the extra money in my pocket and headed off in search of another machine.

I found it. It was called "King of Africa." It has "stacked wilds" which is something I like. Basically, entire rows can be wild which increases your opportunity to win. This wild was a picture of a lion. See for yourself what happened...

Yep! That one spin won me $200. Again, I cashed out and put the extra money aside. I then found a machine called "Wild-A-Go-G0" which was a tribute to the 70s and disco. I only won $75 on this machine...Lol! Looking at my watch, I was up $385 in about 45 minutes! Not bad! Also, not usual for me but I'll rejoice in the win anyway.

We returned to the RV for a while and then went back to the casino for a concert by KC and the Sunshine Band. Great concert. Afterwards some chicken fried rice and a trip back to the RV. A cold front had moved in and it had started to rain. It rained all night long and by the next morning the ground was standing in water and it continued to rain!

I would love to say that we had another great day of winning. We did not. The slots had paid us all they were going to give out so after a bit we returned to the RV. I took a nap while Ronnie watched TV. About 6:30 we returned to the casino. We enjoyed a great dinner at Tomatillo's and then headed to the concert area.

At 9:00 a group called "4-1-1 Band" took the stage. The female singer was great. The drummer and bass guitarist were great. The keyboard player was great. The male singer was AWFUL. Fortunately he wasn't featured much because he couldn't carry a tune if his life depended on it. After an hour they left the stage and there was a 45 minute wait before Three Dog Night was scheduled to appear. During this time the casino was distributing party hats and champagne. We visited with people around us until almost 11:00 and then the band took the stage. They sang almost all their old stuff (awesomeness) and some new stuff. They put on a great show. They were funny, creative and some were almost certainly stoned. Whatever, at midnight (or shortly after) they led the crowd in a sing along of Auld Lang Syne (sp?). Funny, but not even the band knew all the words (refer to my earlier statement about being stoned). Afterwards, they sang the signature "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" and left the stage. No encores...either night. Guess they don't do that in Durant. I like that. I hate it when they go stand off stage and wait to come back. It's like they're begging for applause.  I like that neither band participated in that ridiculous ritual.

After the concert Ronnie gambled a bit while I walked around...wasn't in the mood to gamble. I know...who would have thought it? We grabbed a shuttle and headed back to the RV. The next morning we got up, ate, unhooked and headed home. I came home with $400 bucks so I was pleased. I consider it a win to come home with as much as I take, so bringing home more than double my cash was very satisfying.

It was a great trip....a great way to start a new year AND....we will do it all over again in February when we go see Diana Ross at Winstar!
