I won't bore you with the mundane details of every mile logged on this journey. My hope is to entertain you with our exploits while wowing you with photos of the beauty that is to be found in this country.
This long awaited and eagerly anticipated trip finally arrived. Saturday dawned as any other day and by 10:00 a.m. we were on the road...where we would stay for a number of hours. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
We probably could have left home at least an hour earlier if not for our OCD tendancies of checking that the windows were closed, the ceiling fans were off, the toilet lids down (Chloe is at home being cared for by neighbors), Chloe's water and food dishes were full, the dryer was off, etc., etc., etc. about a dozen times!
Anyhoo, we left...breakfast stop at Sonic...petro at gas station...and we're on the road. We're sharing driving responsibilities so each of us drives for about 3 hours before we stop and switch. I have driven the motorhome before...just never pulling a car in the rain! Mother Nature threw rain at me the whole time I was driving. We made it just fine, though. Stayed our first night in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Let's just say it wasn't Texas weather. It was cold after dark! Dinner and a movie and off to sleep...or so I thought. We made the mistake of not noticing the train track THAT COULD EASILY BE SEEN FROM OUR LOCATION! I swear, Fort Sumner is a happenin' kind of place because there were DOZENS of trains through there all.night.long! Crazy number of trains! Neither of us slept well...which makes Day 2 a looooonnnngggg day!
