I can't believe how incredibly long it has taken me to get around to blogging about our last few trips. Unfortunately, life intervened in the interim and I just could not get everything done that was on my list of tasks (but that's a tale for a different blog). All that aside, let me waste no more time in recounting our times away from home during the "Summer of 2014."
In June we took Trenton and Carter to New Orleans on an RV trip. They love to travel in the RV and we had such an incredible time just being with them. While in New Orleans we took them to the aquarium, the zoo, and on a airboat tour of the Louisiana swamps. None of us had ever been on an airboat so that was a unique and FUN experience. Just getting on the boat we had to fight off Levi, the resident bully alligator, who would have nothing but a ride on our boat with us. Fortunately, that didn't happen. A few marshmallows and some chicken distracted him long enough for us to get away from the dock. Out in the swamp, our boat captain caught a couple of small alligators and we got to hold them. That was fun, too. Their mouths were bound with rubber bands so it was safe. I know they grow up to be big, bad and ugly...but they sure start off cute! Trenton named every gator we saw while Carter wouldn't touch them because he "didn't want to get swamp on (his) hands." The boys were kind of sad when we had to head back home because they were having such a good time. However, while we were gone Kristin and Scott sold their house and began the search for a new home so there was something exciting to come home to.

Though he didn't get to go, Tanner still had a good time playing in the RV!
At the end of August Ron and I got in the RV and headed to Biloxi, Mississippi, for a fun-filled nine day adventure. Our plan...sit on the beach, play in the water, gamble a bit, relax and just unwind. Our boys, Ryan and Richard, surprised us by driving down for a few days. So. Much. Fun! We played in the Gulf in water and weather that was perfect! Small fish jumped out of the water and splashed all around us. After a while we hung out on the beautiful white sand beach. We practically had the beach to ourselves every time we went. Not crowded AT ALL! We played in several of the casinos, too. I can't say we won, but we had fun. We grilled out, sat out, played Heads Up, read, enjoyed a neat little open-air bar called Shaggy's, rode our bikes a bit, and just had an incredible time. Biloxi is a great place to spend a few days unwinding!
The thing about Biloxi is, we got several hours down the road before I realized that I had neglected to bring my camera bag...so our only pictures were those that we took using our cell phones! Thank goodness I got a new phone that takes soooo much better pictures! Regardless, here they are (again in no particular order)...
Ready for bed!
Finally, the last week of summer, before the kids had to return to school, Ron and I drove the RV up to Durant, OK, where we set up camp at the Choctaw KOA and were joined by the Durbin clan for cooking out, swimming and playing.
Yeah...relaxing is hard work!
So now summer is over and we are moving quickly into fall and the holiday season. We're planning another getaway between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe it won't take me quite as long to record our journey next time. Till then...
~ Cheers!
