Day 10: June 16, 2013

Father's Day Sunday. We are VERY tired from all the hiking and climbing yesterday so we decided to just take it easy and drive the north loop of the park today. We stopped as soon as we had cell service and talked to each of our dads as well as to Kristin when she called. We continued on our drive and it was uneventful until I said, "I thought this loop was supposed to have lots of wildlife." Moments later we spotted our first black bear! He was really at a distance and hard to spot but we were still excited. We met and chatted with a lovely couple while bear watching and then she said, "I love your accents! Where do you come from?" We told her we were from Texas but what we thought was funny is that she asked her question in her beautiful British accent. They were here touring the states.

After we left this siting we drove not five minutes down the road before we spotted another black bear...and then another! And these were easy to spot because we were within about 50 yards of them snapping pictures as fast as the shutter would open and close! It was incredible! We had so hoped to see a bear and here they were just ambling by munching on marigolds! Amazing!

We spotted even more elk and bison on the rest of our journey after lunch and then we headed back to the RV to rest for a bit. After a nap we decided o take Beau "buffalo and elk hunting." Doesn't that make it "Beau" hunting? We got back in the car and took a path where we had seen both bison and elk numerous times and sure enough...they were out just waiting to be spotted. Amazingly our little guy didn't bark at either the elk or the buffalo. He watched them and did a little dance step in my lap while whining a bit but he never did bark. We drove back to the RV with the window down and Beau hanging his head ou to let the wind blow in his face. I think that has been his favorite part of the trip!
